  • About Moon Cheon Gak

Gyeongsang National University Library has been collecting old books and local archival materials since 1989 when it established the Department of Archives and Special Collections, which was then housed in the university library building. In 2001, the department was renamed 'Moon Cheon Gak' ('Literary Fountain Department') and moved to Nammyong Hall, a building newly erected in memory of a leading scholar of the Choseon Dynasty.

Moon Cheon Gak consists of the Preservation Division and the General Division. The Preservation Division preserves old threadbound books, engraved wood blocks, and archives. The General Division houses modern photocopies of old books, genealogical data, and has rooms for exhibitions.

Construction of a separate building for archival materials will start in 2012 to launch the collection and management of a variety of old materials which are assumed to be kept either by persons or by clans in Gyeongnam Province.

Moon Cheon Gak aims to continue to improve access to their materials by digitalizing them so that researchers can access them online. It also aims to promote relevant studies.
